Leonardo Lidi, an associate director of the TST, presents the last work by Russian author Chekhov. The play, written shortly before the Russian Revolution, portrays significant social change and the liberation of serfs from wealthy landowners. It also poignantly examines the bourgeoisie’s struggle to adapt to the ever-changing present. The director invites the audience into a garden/theatre that now only exists in the memories of its actors and brings together a talented cast (Giordano Agrusta, Maurizio Cardillo, Alfonso De Vreese, Ilaria Falini, Christian La Rosa, Angela Malfitano, Francesca Mazza, Orietta Notari, Mario Pirrello, Tino Rossi, Massimiliano Speziani, and Giuliana Vigogna) to perform a bitter comedy that serves as a metaphor for the theatre.

In his production of The Seagull, the first part of the Chekhov Project, Leonardo Lidi employs a minimalist setting to create a sound box for the emotions that drive the plot’s characters, who are isolated on the shores of a vast lake at a summer estate. The cast, including Giordano Agrusta, Maurizio Cardillo, Ilaria Falini, Christian La Rosa, Angela Malfitano, Francesca Mazza, Orietta Notari, Tino Rossi, Massimiliano Speziani, and Giuliana Vigogna, conveyd themes of love and its absence, childhood memories and nostalgia, lost illusions, and existential angst. They reassemble the fragments of the puzzle of our humanity, prompting the audience to reflect on themselves and question the simplicity of our existence

Uncle Vanja chronicles the story of a family overcome by its ghosts; it is a drama of missed opportunities, renunciations and regrets: a domestic comedy that appears to be almost based on inertia. The characters in this play are the guests of a large decaying dacha, caught in the inertia of the Russian provinces, immersed in boredom and agonising over their failures. Their immobility is merely an illusion and lends even more force to the brash mirror that reflects our weaknesses. The cast includes (in alphabetical order) Giordano Agrusta, Maurizio Cardillo, Ilaria Falini, Angela Malfitano, Francesca Mazza, Mario Pirrello, Tino Rossi, Massimiliano Speziani, Giuliana Vigogna.
